Even a former NFL player took part in the Medicare fraud scheme. I never expected to see that headline in the news.

Um, you should be aware that back in the dark ages when I was in graduate school, I knew of a grad student with multiple wives who also had multiple apartments--one for each wife. That was here in the states.

(Yes I know, going back long before the Empire Windrush in 1948, but....)

That's not near all.  43 years ago, the Pipes and Drums of the Black Watch released a new album. The title song "Sands of Time" was openly homosexual.  About the same time, a decade-long string of two-dozen mysterious deaths was occurring in and around a company known as Marconi Ltd (most classified by authorities as suicide, but in circumstances where suicide was physically impossible.)

Today on that side of the pond, "it" operates with significant (but not complete) impunity.

Today's Britain is incapable of producing another William Gladstone, Winston Churchill, Maggie Thatcher or John Profumo.  Like today's America, it's because of degradation of content of character.  Over here, the degradation's been very public, celebrity celebrated, and politically rewarded.  Over there, they don't try to deliberately and loudly put it into Number 10.

Welcome to America.

Your example (here in the States, in decades past) was very likely to have been the son of a significant foreign leader or business mogul -- someone with significant "status", quietly bordering upon "foreign relations", therefore quietly "allowed".

Prior to leaving home, the multiple-wived foreigner would likely have been told, keep it discreet.  Multiple apartments was almost-certainly part of that tactic.

Over in today's no-longer-great Britain, it's right out in the open.

Boris Johnson was a verrrrrry minor league version of The Donald.  Yes he's trash, but ....

On a completely different topic, I had some leftover rice and wanted to use it before it went bad.

So I made fried rice. Oil in pan, microwaved frozen vegetables to get them warm, threw them in, eggs (depends on how big the pan is), kept mixing until the egs were done, added cooked leftover rice, mixed, soy sause, mixed.

Very good and quick, using stuff I had around.

And I have a lot to put away, too.

Nice, that’s basically the perfect

Nice, that’s basically the perfect “clean-out-the-fridge” fried rice method — super quick, flexible, and honestly hard to mess up 👍
