In Sunday's #4 Occasional Reader said: Last night my 10-year-old son was doing a humorous digression over dinner about how the 10 Commandments could be updated for the Internet age. I think the best one he came up with was: “Commandment 1: I am the Lord thy GOD. Like and subscribe!”

LOL. I have to admit--that line is getting really old in Youtube videos. Like, REALLY old.

May I ask a question that this comment sparks? I'm curious to know your thoughts about the world he's growing up in as opposed to yours, specifically in the area of technology. My grandchildren are 6 and under and many miles away, so I haven't had a chance to interact with them and how they view computers, AI, etc. But your son is just the right age to get a feel for this stuff. What is he using and what are you shielding him from?

We can take it to the Frontier, if desired. I'm just trying to get a sense of how kids today see this stuff given that they haven't grown up with tech the way we have.

One channel I go to, Industrial Revolution, explains that liking, subscribing, and commenting pushes the video and channel higher in the youtube algorithms and therefore he gets more money from the ads.

After that, he says if you can afford it, how to send him money. But he gives the easy and free part first.

The channel covers old steam engines, mills, canals, etc. Interesting to see what was high tech a long time ago.

The little-known Hank Williams Passover song:

If it seems as though your neighbors are somewhat crazed

They've got to avoid the chometz for eight days

So, pass it on over

Yes, pass it on over,

Pass over leavening 'cause the matzoh's movin' in

Apropos of nothing:

I just walked past a soon to open restaurant on Wisconsin Avenue in Georgetown, DC; a great big sign on the window boasts the name:
“DELHI BELLY -Indian Street Food”.

Um…

(Both of these have links to the original songs)

There's the rock star book for the Passover Seder - In Haggadah Da Vida

and the song about the seder that was ruined when The Matza Got Lost

I worked with a company that outsourced a lot to India. Our team lead went there and was warned to eat only cooked food - but he saw the Indians eating some form of raw onion and had some, with not so good results.

Hadn't heard the term until now, though.

Thought you were linking to the parody songs, with additional links to the originals.

I was wrong.

I would like to do the lyrics for the Shtetl Peoples' song, "Matzoh Man":

Lots of matzoh, man!

I've got to eat lots of matzoh, man! etc.

I never wrote the parodies - just the parody titles.

What is an absolute iron rule for eating in less developed countries, and yes I am including India in that category for these purposes; only eat cooked food. No leafy greens, no eating fruits that have not been peeled, only bottled or boiled water, no ice cubes in your drinks unless you know for a fact they came from bottled or boiled water.
