Trump postpones strikes on Iranian energy infrastructure amid 'constructive' talks to end war President Donald Trump's administration will speak with Iran's leadership later Monday after the two sides found "major points of agreement," the president says. Trump made the comments while speaking to reporters before boarding Air Force One on Monday. He did not name the Iranian officials engaged in talks, but said he had not spoken with Mojtaba Khamenei, who was formally installed as Iran's supreme leader earlier this month. I hope the talks are with opposition groups in Iran and not the Thugocracy.

Reply to JCM in 1: How awful. It will be interesting to see how NTSB analyzes this.

Iran fires missiles at remote U.K.-U.S. base, suggesting long-range capabilities it previously denied The distance of the attempted strike could indicate that Iran has capabilities for long-distance attacks that it has previously denied, with the base the same distance from Iran as much of central Europe. It is unclear, however, if the missiles carried a payload or how far such an attack could truly reach, as neither missile reached its target. Iran's long range missile is the Khorramshahr-4, 2 thousand km range 1800 kg payload. There have been previous indication of a longer range platform in Iran. Some analyst I tend to trust think these two might have been the Khorramshahr-4 with no warhead, which would effective double the range. Iran could be trying to further intimidate Europe with the potential of 4000 km range. Since Europe just woke up the fact they are in energy trouble if the Gulf stays closed and began indicating they may start supporting the operations in the ME. IMAO that's a more likely than not.

Reply to JCM in 6: A couple of ways they could have doubled the range Echoing IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Eyal Zamir’s statement on Saturday night that the additional distance probably stemmed from a launch vehicle that used multiple stages, Kochav noted that Iran has been working on such two-stage launch technologies for years to try to launch satellites into space.
or According to Kochav, one way the missile’s range could have been extended from 3,000 to 4,000 kilometers is if a clandestine program worked on launching the missile with a much lighter warhead. In other words, if the warhead is lighter, then the missile is lighter and could travel farther in a shorter time using the same amount of energy and a similar launch process.

Didn't know if folks saw this over the weekend, but Musk has agreed to pay the TSA workers's salaries during the shutdown. Um, that isn't going to help resolve this issue. Is he being intentionally obtuse? Or is he working against Trump on this?

Reply to Kosh's Shadow in 9: Either of those are possible. The lighter warhead being more likely. A mulit-stage would have / should have had some testing which would have been noticed. They could have just stacked them and fired them without a previous test.

I highly recommend you go read today's Coffee and COVID. He does a good job of pointing out what the MSM is completely covering with a pillow to avoid giving Trump any credit.
