If you're wondering what NYC will look like very soon, just look back to the 70s and early 80s. Brit Hume tweeted about the monumentally stupid action by de Blasio and the City Council to reduce the NYPD budget by nearly $1 billion. I suggested that the first thing they should do is eliminate the mayor's security detail.

Reply to doppelganglander in 3: $1 Billion is a 20% cut. or 3700 officers.

Reply to JCM in 5: Supposedly it's a bit of a shell game - the cost of school resource officers will come out of the education budget instead of the police budget. My Brooklyn daughter is old enough to make her own decisions, and she doesn't take foolish risks, but I really wish she'd come home.

Reply to Kosh's Shadow in 8: The real meaning of the song: The theme comes from the saying “From the forest itself comes the handle for the axe that will destroy it”. This saying is referred to in the Talmud, tractate Sanhedrin, p. 39b. The Talmud is discussing why the prophet Ovadiah was tasked with prophesizing the downfall of Edom. They conclude it was because Ovadiah himself was an Edomite who converted to Judaism. In this case Moshe, born as a slave, was saved, and grew up as an Egyptian prince. Hence, he also was the handle for the axe that destroyed Egypt, having grown in the “forest” of Egypt.

Oh, I think that's a relatively optimistic projection, to be frank.
