Venezuela hasn't followed through on its pledge to release political prisoners: According to the human rights group Foro Penal, only 143 have been released since the announcement. It suggests that 777 remain in custody, including 678 men and 99 women, 604 civilians and 173 members of the military, and two adolescents. It also suggests that 66 people's whereabouts remain unknown. Web page links to an X post with a graphic in English as well as video of a mother still waiting for her son to be released, as promised.

A reasonable summary of AI: The most important part of communication is hearing what isn't being said. This came up in the story about what AI thinks about whether Ilhan Omar married her brother or not and what people learn about ICE arrests when they don't want to learn what ICE said about that arrest. AI clearly sucks at getting all the context, to the point where it won't even consider referring to the potential sources for more information about ICE arrests or previously documented facts about someone with a questionable background such as Omar. But that isn't the issue he's focusing on here. Key graph: "I am inclined to believe that the [AI] Bots are more dangerous in this instance, since so many humans take their programmatic word at face value, mostly on the strength of preferred narrative reinforcement. I've seen this in action across several social media platforms. It's a thinly disguised appeal to authority, which concerns me greatly, because it places the Bots in an unwarranted position of that authority." The key thought is that AI cannot identify what is not present in the material before them, so they can't understand that the entire picture isn't presented. It can only parse words that are ingested into its memory.

The idea that the Democrats would push to have Michelle run for the presidency despite the fact that she has never held public office. I thought that was yours, but I could easily be wrong. (Too many things clogging my brain these days.)

When it's brutally cold in Minnesota, the protesters start moving indoors. To Target. Because Target let ICE folks use the restrooms.

It sounds like various journalists are correcting this, which is good, but it's annoying how long it takes for the truth to come out. You mean a double nose-ring ceremony, by itself, is not legally valid?

Comment made today--does anyone know offhand if this is true? I need to go verify the info myself. Here's the quote: "Obama's ICE chief receives an award from Obama and called a hero. Trump's ICE chief receives daily death threats, gets labeled as Freddy Krueger and Head of the Gestapo. Same guy, Tom Homan. "Proof positive that this epoch has produced some of the dumbest most incoherent, dysfunctional and insufferable collection of flaccid minded morons in history."

to the tune of "Goldfinger": Nose-ringer She's the ma'am The ma'am with the activist's touch It don't accomplish much But The nose-ringer Hectors you, at every chance she can find She's lost her mind! Torrents of words she'll pour in your ears Detailing all her fantasies and fears But at the end of day, despite the invective Her strategy's ineffective Nose-ringer Disregard everything she's told It soon gets old!

Trump drops Europe tariff threats after reaching deal on Greenland framework The president took to his Truth Social platform and said that, after a meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, he is backing off imposing tariffs on several European countries that stood up for Greenland's sovereignty amid Trump's push to acquire the island. "Based upon a very productive meeting that I have had with the Secretary General of NATO, Mark Rutte, we have formed the framework of a future deal with respect to Greenland and, in fact, the entire Arctic Region," Trump wrote.

Justice DEI-KBJ cites racist “Black Codes” in support of Hawaii gun law
So, by Justice DEI’s “reasoning” [cough], if a state today were to enact the law specifically forbidding possession of firearms by black people, that would be even more in keeping with the “tradition” she is citing in support of the Hawaii law; and therefore, even safer under the Bruen test. Right, Ketanji?
