Happy Monday, gang. Insane work hours for the last week have prevented me from posting, but the drama seems to be over. Back to the news. While Trump's plan to take on the drug companies by forcing price parity between the US and other countries is noble, why not just let the market sort it out? This looks too much like government intrusion, which we decry on the other side.

Mafia tactics in big Pharma are nothing new, but it's nice to see this story making the rounds as it demonstrates the stranglehold these companies have on new medicines.

Reply to vxbush in 5: Both, he has a surfeit of ego and he's a master at trolling! Some people you want to have egos, surgeons, fighter pilots, firefighters (since I were one). The fine line between ego and confidence. The lack of self doubt when doing difficult tasks.

Reply to vxbush in 9: Want to talk racism, colonialism, imperialism, all the worst aspects of the 17 and 18th centuries.... just look at how the WEF / Climate elites treat Africa. It makes me livid. That said the underlying issues in Africa are still a huge problem. Look at S. Africa and how it is coming apart.

Reply to vxbush in 13: I would love to see Judical Review settled and Marbury v. Madision revisited.
IMAO a court can say a law is unconstitutional or violates existing laws or precedent. What they cannot do is remedy the law, fix the law by rewritting it.

In #14 JCM said: IMAO a court can say a law is unconstitutional or violates existing laws or precedent. What they cannot do is remedy the law, fix the law by rewritting it. But the case above is a situation where a state has been told a plan of action is unconstitutional, and they are going to do it anyway. They have an excuse for why they can continue the bear culling: The state claims it is acting within the bounds of emergency regulations passed by the Alaska Board of Game on March 27, which the Department argues were not explicitly invalidated by the courts. The state may have a point here, but then this becomes a matter of keeping track of every jot and tittle in the laws. I'm all about the details in many things, but how can a society live if you have to go drill down into the tiniest portion of the laws in order to live? How can a society function when the rules aren't obvious and any allowance is granted through such cut-outs? And I'm concerned about some of Trump's actions for the same reasons. So far, he's been very good to respect the court orders so far and hasn't gone rogue, unlike previous presidents like Biden.

Great line about Trump's prescription drug EO today at Coffee and Covid: "I think the media has lost the plot. Trump essentially promised to cut costs for sick people, and the media’s hair is on fire over hedge fund portfolio losses."
