From the daytime thread: The Dune Guild was the Navigators' Guild, which navigated spacecraft through hyperspace with the help of Spice.

The women had the Bene Gesserit, which taught them how to control their lives and others; one thing it did was the Missionaria Protectiva, which left myths on various planets that they could use for protection and help. That merged with the native myths of Arrakis of the Kwitzatz Haderach.

I wish I could find my copy of Doon, which describes the dessert planet, Aruckus, whose vast sugars, inhabited only by the giant pretzels and sweatsuit-clad freedmenmen, was the only known source of that mysterious, mind-altering substance known as "beer".

The freedmenmen were waiting for entrees, and they would say "Steak for dinner sometime soon". They needed the Kumquat Haagendaz.

The new release of Dune looks promising.

A quick detail in the preview, which was a brief detail in the book.

Burning palm trees....

Something like that is easily skipped over.

The books went downhill, as did the movies.

Rain on Dune? There go the sandworms,  and with them, Spice, and with that, space travel.

All the sandworms sing this song

So Dell wants me to send the system that isn't working right for depot maintenance, and that makes sense, as they can find problems that don't show up in diagnostics

When we were dating, my ex took me to see the original Dune movie at the big fancy theater. When they handed me a cheat sheet to explain everything, I knew it was going to suck. I was not wrong, and I have had no reason to revise my opinion about the various movies or books in the last 37 years.

Can anyone name a movie that was at least as good as the novel?

I will suggest The French Connection, although I only have seen the movie. The director was in a residence in the Worcester colleges, and said he could not get through the book, but I enjoyed the movie.

The Harry Potter movies that I have seen were not as good, but not too bad.

Just listen to story on the radio about Pfizer applying for their "booster" to FDA.

This was mentioned.

Pfizer Vaccine Protection Wanes After 6 Months Study Finds

As to why the booster was needed.

That's not how a vaccine works.

A vaccine trains your immune system to recognize a virus.

When a new virus enters your system it takes the immune system 48 to 72 hours to recognize and respond to the virus.

I vaccine trains your body to recognize the virus so the response is immediate.

The immune system that has the recognition programmed into the immune system. FOREVER.

If the Pfizer mRNA injection "wanes" after 6 months.... it is not a vaccine... it is not doing what they claim.
