Aw, yet again the terminal comes up with a win! And I discovered today that the Windows 11 software is available as a Windows *feature update* through MECM, despite being a supposed overhaul of the UI and who knows what kind of hardware compatibility issues. Winning!

That one comes today (a 45% off deal), so I could try Win 11 on it without losing much. But I am not so sure that it will give me much, although an update right away is less painful. I also read that Firefox figured out the way to set all the browser defaults, so that eliminates one pain.

We have to set up a test machine to evaluate software running under Win11, and it's going to be a question how many Windows 10 drivers will still work under Windows 11. In the past, it was a given that most of them would work, but given all the trumpeting of security and new features, I have to wonder which ones are going to fail. Joy. One more reason to be overworked this fall.

Took the dogs out and FedEx showed up. Nice solid system, but the home, end keys overlap with F11 and F12, and I prefer being able to use F2, etc. Oh, well, I'll get used to it. Just told it to upgrade to Win 11. We'll see

System has blue screened 3 times - and it has not even downloaded Win 11. DOA. With this and the other system, I can tell Dell where to go.

The Unknown Citizen ---WH Auden (To JS/07 M 378 This Marble Monument Is Erected by the State) He was found by the Bureau of Statistics to be One against whom there was no official complaint, And all the reports on his conduct agree That, in the modern sense of an old-fashioned word, he was a saint, For in everything he did he served the Greater Community. Except for the War till the day he retired He worked in a factory and never got fired, But satisfied his employers, Fudge Motors Inc. Yet he wasn't a scab or odd in his views, For his Union reports that he paid his dues, (Our report on his Union shows it was sound) And our Social Psychology workers found That he was popular with his mates and liked a drink. The Press are convinced that he bought a paper every day And that his reactions to advertisements were normal in every way. Policies taken out in his name prove that he was fully insured, And his Health-card shows he was once in hospital but left it cured. Both Producers Research and High-Grade Living declare He was fully sensible to the advantages of the Instalment Plan And had everything necessary to the Modern Man, A phonograph, a radio, a car and a frigidaire. Our researchers into Public Opinion are content That he held the proper opinions for the time of year; When there was peace, he was for peace: when there was war, he went. He was married and added five children to the population, Which our Eugenist says was the right number for a parent of his generation. And our teachers report that he never interfered with their education. Was he free? Was he happy? The question is absurd: Had anything been wrong, we should certainly have heard.

Someone must have. They started fixing the one in for repair, too. The Azal-Dell goat was sent into the wilderness of the Dark Web, carrying all my sins against Microsoft.

Reply to vxbush in 26: True; there are more audio codecs than video. Anyway, the system has stayed up for hours now. I think it started to install some update that needed a reboot, and continued instead of rebooting, leaving the system unstable. I had something minor like that happen on a different system when the Bluetooth driver was updated - the Bluetooth mouse stopped working until after the reboot. Will try win11 after these updates are done. Only another 400 MB to download

Rebooting after driver updates - bluescreen again. DPC Watchdog violation - seems to be due to driver problems, which may mean the driver updates will fix it (still running on earlier drivers when it shuts down)

Microsoft OneDrive is brain dead. You CANNOT sync desktop links to applications that are not installed on one of the computers. You get broken links. But the only way to stop it is to set the desktop to be a shared desktop for all users on the computer. Idiots.

It now appears Win11 is not yet available for the new system. But I do think the blue screen problem has been fixed with the driver updates. I will check, as I am downloading WinDbg, which lets me read crash dumps and see if it is in an older driver. (I've analyzed crash dumps many times in the past) Still don't think Dell should ship a system that crashes. They need to update their disk image. Maybe that is why this system was 45% off
