Reply to vxbush in 3: I have been working the door mostly for the past week. It's currently a long weekend up here. We've been under a "Stay at Home" order since the beginning of April. Wouldn't know it with all the tourists coming into the store. All the stupid questions and actions. We used to have two entrances but blocked one off over a year ago. Idiots will try to go into our "exit" door and wonder why it won't open automatically.

I found I had an email from Kohl's welcoming me to my new account. Headers showed it did come from Kohl's; all links were to Kohls.com. Did not have my correct name, though. Contacted them. The chatbot actually made it easy to get to an agent! Agent deactivated the account, and assured me there was no credit card or other information associated with it. I don't know what good the account is, and she didn't say. Changed my email password anyway, even though the account info did not show any strange logins.

Reply to PaladinPhil in 4: During the strict COVID restrictions, supermarkets here did the same - one would be the entrance, the other exit only, But for some strange reason, one town had them set the exit door so that when entering the store, you had to go by all the registers, and people heading to the exit

The booze store/deli/market up the street from me did something like this at the beginning of Covid, and I still cannot grasp the logic, or alleged logic. Previously (in the Before Time), they had a total of six doors available for customers to enter and exit; two double doors (one each for entrance and exit) on the sidewalk side of the building; and one set of double doors (again, one enter, one exit) in the back, facing the parking lot and associated driveway.
Then, because of Covid, they closed the two sets of doors on the sidewalk side (front) of the building. So, while previously, customers could enter and exit through a total of six doors, now, in the name of "social distanctng" and combatting Covid, we're funnelled through two. Huh? Not to mention, getting to (or from) those doors involves walking through an active driveway and parking lot. All in the name of "safety". Or something. This makes zero sense to me.

Reply to Occasional Reader in 7: The reason we do it is not to enforce social distancing really. It's to make it easier to count people coming in and out. Our capacity has been cut by 75% and with two entrances that would be impossible to track.

The place up the street from me, I don't see anyone doing any counting or enforcing any maximum customer numbers.

This has pretty much gone away here; no one is policing this except the Karens who demand we show them our vaccination papers.

The Idea for Lockdowns Started With a High School Science Project The New York Times reported the story with little fanfare in late April. “The Untold Story of the Birth of Social Distancing,” it explained, started as “an important discovery kicked off by a high school research project pursued by the daughter of a scientist at the Sandia National Laboratories.”

Circa 2002, I attended a wedding along with a bunch of friends, including an Argentian. At the rehearsal dinner, the waitress asked him (as she had the others) whether he'd like "soup or salad" with his meal. He replied, "yes, I'd like the Super Salad, please." And now, he's vindicated...

I've been shopping without a mask since I got the vaccine in early April. No one has said a word. My favorite supermarket finally added a small note to the mask sign saying you didn't have to if you're vaccinated. Nevertheless, about 90% of the shoppers were masked. Meanwhile, in the two counties west of me, fewer than half the people I saw were masked. One is 75% Republican and the other was until 2016. My count is 75% Democrat. The conclusion is obvious.

When I was taught French, we learned that you had to drag the last letter of the previous word on to the beginning of the next word in order to sound more authentic. It's the same with American English. Nothing new here, except for vindicating your friend.

The Streets of Chicago ---apologies to "The Streets of Laredo" As I walked out in the streets of Chicago As I walked out in Chicago one day I spied a gangbanger a-waving his pistol But all of the policemen looked the other way "I see by your do-rag you are a gangbanger--- Of the El Rukhns or the Disciples are you?" He replied to me, "It don't make no difference; Just give me your money and your iPhone too." I said, "Do you not realize that gun violence Is a dreadful scourge in your own community?" He answered right back, "Just give me the money--- What the government says doesn't mean shit to me."

I hope the court throws this out and makes them pay Trump's legal fees Trump sued for referring to COVID as 'China Virus', inciting violence Former US president Donald Trump is being sued for referring to COVID-19 as the "China Virus" while in office. The lawsuit, filed in a Federal Court in New York on Thursday by the Chinese Americans Civil Rights Coalition (CACRC) points to various comments made by the former president in speeches and statements that caused "emotional distress" to Asian Americans and encouraged hate crimes directed toward the Asian community, while fueling racism across the country. Specifically, the lawsuit points to Trump's repeated use of the terms: “Chinese virus”, “Wuhan virus” and “Kung Flu virus” amid the coronavirus pandemic that has so far taken the toll of nearly 590 thousand people in the US alone.
First, the virus DID come from China. Second, why is this suit being filed now? Maybe it has something to do with the fact the media is finally realizing the lab leak theory makes more sense than the virus moving to people, given the bat virus occurs naturally in Yunnan, 1000 miles away from Wuhan, but never seemed to infect anyone there. And third, how much money for the suit is coming from the Chinese Communist Party?
